# Company Shark > Company Shark is a UK company search and B2B sales-intelligence tool built on live Companies House data. Users search the entire UK register, filter by SIC code, location and incorporation date, and export company records — including director/officer details — as CSV, Excel, JSON or PDF. The MAX+ tier adds contact enrichment (best-effort corporate emails and phone numbers) and Trading Signals (a 0–100 observational health score per company). All company data originates from the official UK Companies House register. Figures such as company counts are computed live from that register. ## Guides — UK company data explained - [What is an SIC code?](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/what-is-an-sic-code): A plain-English explanation of UK SIC codes: what they are, how Companies House uses them, how to find a company’s SIC code, and how to search companies by SIC. - [How to find a company’s directors](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/how-to-find-company-directors): Find the directors and officers of any UK company free on the public register: what officer data Companies House publishes, how to read it, and how to look it up. - [What is a dormant company?](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/what-is-a-dormant-company): A dormant company explained: what “dormant” means to Companies House and HMRC, why companies go dormant, and what they still have to file. - [How to check if a company is still trading](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/how-to-check-if-a-company-is-still-trading): Check whether a UK company is still active and trading: read its company status, latest accounts and confirmation statement, and watch for insolvency markers. - [What is a registered office address?](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/what-is-a-registered-office-address): The registered office address explained: what it is, the rules every UK company must follow, and how it differs from a trading or business address. - [UK company number explained](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/company-number-explained): The UK company registration number (CRN) explained: how the 8-character format works, what the prefixes mean, and how to find a company’s number. - [What is a person with significant control (PSC)?](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/what-is-a-person-with-significant-control): PSCs explained: who counts as a person with significant control, the 25% thresholds, and how the PSC register reveals who really owns a UK company. - [Ltd vs PLC vs LLP: UK company types explained](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/ltd-vs-plc-vs-llp): The main UK company types compared: private limited (Ltd), public limited (PLC) and limited liability partnership (LLP) — ownership, liability and filing differences. - [Company status explained (Active, Dissolved & more)](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/company-status-explained): What each Companies House company status means — Active, Dissolved, Liquidation, Administration, Active proposal to strike off — and what it tells you about a business. - [How to find a company’s accounts](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/how-to-find-company-accounts): Find any UK company’s accounts and filing history on Companies House: what gets filed, what small companies can leave out, and how to read the dates. - [What is a confirmation statement?](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/what-is-a-confirmation-statement): The confirmation statement explained: what it confirms, how often it is due, and why it matters when you are checking a UK company’s health. - [Company insolvency explained](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/company-insolvency-explained): Liquidation, administration, receivership and CVAs explained in plain English — the main UK insolvency processes and what each one means for a company. - [How to find UK companies by industry](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/how-to-find-companies-by-industry): Build a list of UK companies in any industry using SIC code search: how SIC codes map to industries, and how to filter by location and incorporation date. - [How to check a UK company is legitimate](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/how-to-check-a-company-is-legitimate): A practical, step-by-step guide to verifying a UK company before you buy from, sell to, or invest in it — using the free public Companies House record and what each check tells you. - [A due-diligence checklist for UK companies](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/company-due-diligence-checklist): A practical checklist for doing due diligence on a UK company before trading, hiring, or investing — what to verify at Companies House and beyond, and what each answer means. - [How to read a company’s filing history](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/guides/how-to-read-companies-house-filing-history): Understand a UK company’s filing history: what confirmation statements, accounts, officer changes and mortgage charges mean, and how the timeline reveals a company’s health. ## Reference data - [UK company statistics](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/statistics): live figures from the Companies House register — how many companies are registered in the UK, monthly incorporation trends, and the most common business activities (SIC codes). - [UK company data reports](https://www.companyshark.co.uk/reports): dated, citable press-style reports on incorporation trends and sector growth, drawn from the Company Shark index.
